Apocalypse Now? It's The Gays Fault

Around the web, commenters shared fears about the apocalypse starting with the Red Moon. And now, an MP in Israel believes that earthquakes around the country are being caused by immoral activity:

Shlomo Benizri, of the ultra-Orthodox Jewish Shas Party, said the tremors had been caused by lawmaking that gave "legitimacy to sodomy".

Israel decriminalised homosexuality in 1988 and has since passed several laws recognising gay rights.

Two earthquakes shook the region last week and a further four struck in November and December.
It does seem that the Judeo-Christian world is diverging further. There are the ultra-conservatives who see signs everywhere and the increasingly secularized, marginally churched who hold their noses at such archaic notions. I guess we'll find out who is right soon enough.

So many churches have such a "fear based" out look on what they believe the scriptures teaches. It instills fear and condemnation on people and that is really hard to swallow.

Well, it's always the confused ones who get the headlines. When I think of Christians I think of people like you and me, and we do account for the majority. The vast majority. And the vast majority of Jews have a very compassionate view of homosexuality.

The entire reason why the various churches are having trouble with gay issues is that they must affirm the validity and worth of human beings beyond their sins and confusions. The truly secular world just cannot understand the teaching.

We are not what we do, although what we do does shape us and it has real world consequences. Promiscuity comes with STDs, and if we don't get the message that way I am sure those involved won't get the message from an earthquake.

The best thing churches can do is patiently explain over and over again that the Laws of God were given to us for our benefit rather than instituted as a means to get us in trouble. Sleep around and you will get sick. Sleep with someone else's wife or husband and you are contributing to true heartache.

Probably the world has always swung between those who truly understand the meaning of "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath" and those who don't.

Denying the rules brings trouble and pain into the world. God has no need to add additional suffering.
