Short Car Trips More Environmentally Friendly Than Walking?

Say it isn't so! Actually, this article is kinda funny and illustrates the absurd lengths people go to to ensure righteousness. In the absence of God, people will create one anyway. And environmentalism gets more Pharisaical by the day. For example:

If you walk 1.5 miles, Mr. Goodall calculates, and replace those calories by drinking about a cup of milk, the greenhouse emissions connected with that milk (like methane from the dairy farm and carbon dioxide from the delivery truck) are just about equal to the emissions from a typical car making the same trip. And if there were two of you making the trip, then the car would definitely be the more planet-friendly way to go.
How can one keep up?

And Mother Gaia is a nature goddess, who can bless you with crops one year and kill you with drought (or volcano, or quake, or plague, or hurricane) the next. Like an intermittently-abusive alcoholic Mother.

How long before we start seeing Infallible Ex Cathedra Statements and Inquisitions and Holy Wars and "DIE, HERETIC!" and other Purifications of the One True Way?

Interesting piece, and it's amusing to see how some people react when the tenants of their religion are challenged. It's increasingly easy to see how things like the Inquisition happened.

Regarding the meme for "locally grown food"...getting stuff from a long way away can be quite energy-efficient---sometimes more so than local stuff---depending on transportation modes. See my post Tangerines per Gallon.
