Erase Bad Memories Before They're Made

I can think of all sorts of uses for an anesthesia that makes you not remember bad stuff while it's happening.

When I was a child and had my appendix taken out, I awoke in the middle of the procedure and tried to sit up. A big mama nurse hauled off and slapped me in the face and I went back to sleep. I don't remember the pain associated with that...only the action and the surprise.

It would be great in some ways to have emotional pain taken care of through anesthesia. But then I wonder, what would happen to learning from your mistakes, or teaching your children, or all sorts of art that was created from a deep feeling associated with love, pain, loss, betrayal, etc, etc, etc... Loosing that would be a great pity indeed.
