US demand for organic food is outstripping supply. Guess what? I'm guessing there's a big market here for farmers. And there is, but companies are going outside of the US for organic food, too. Organic is the way to go for a host of reasons: health, environment, etc.
However, this is not an all or nothing proposition. In Africa where bioengineered crops could save people from starvation, environmentalists who view bio-purity as a religion would rather people die than use genetically resistant food or the herbicides that would allow the food to grow.
What is that elementary rule again? Oh yeah! People first, then things.
