Women Earn More Than Men

If the woman lives in New York or Dallas or another big city, she earns more. Men on the other hand are going backwards:
Though Dr. Beveridge’s analysis showed women making strides, it also showed that men were in some ways moving backward. Among all men — including those with college degrees — real wages, adjusted for inflation, have declined since 1970. And among full-time workers with advanced degrees, wages for men increased only marginally even as they soared for women. Nationally, men’s wages in general declined while women’s remained the same.
Is reverse-discrimination at play or are the women just doing as this woman suggests:
“It seems that women tend to take less time off between college and law school, and therefore become more senior, and, hence, make more money, at a younger age,” she said. “I would, of course, like to think that means that women know what they want sooner than men. But it probably has more to do with the unfortunate fact that women need to keep in mind biological time constraints and feel a great deal of pressure to build an entire career before refocusing on marriage and children.”
Women who want to marry a peer are in big trouble. Only men seem to like "trophies" for a spouse. Women who work hard want a partner and to hire out the menial work like raising children. Maybe that's changing, too.

I am interested in understanding what you mean when you say, "Women who want to marry a "peer." Someone in the same profession? Someone who makes the same amount of money?

  2. By peer I mean equal, or "a person of equal standing". Equal educationally, monetarily and ambition-wise.

I'm curious to know apples to apples: are 30 year old men and women making the same income if they're lawyers, bankers, etc.?

When men made more than women, women cried about gender earning inequality. Now that the gap has been eliminated and actually reversed, wonmen are ok with the disparity. Nice double standard. I'm sure men will still be paying the majority of bar tabs and dinner bills. Your turn to throw down the plastic ladies.

  4. Anon 6:00,

As long as men are okay with being asked out.... Why not?

I'm just not sure that the economic equality or reversal will be able to reverse physiology and biology.

Personally, I'm not sure I want it to. Sure, I can take care of myself, but hey, being cared for is fun, too. And I like manly men. The guy who opens the door, sends flowers and yes, is willing to pay a bill.

For what it's worth, I'm not okay with pay disparity. It shouldn't happen. Period. If a person does the same job, with the same dedication, gender, race, shouldn't matter.

Thanks, I see what you mean. My husband, a professional, works with a lot of young women who have wanted to build a career and waiting to marry and/or have children. These women are highly motivated and ambitious, wanting to climb the ladder just like their peer co-worker males do. They make a lot of money and their mind set seems to demand this kind of income. There are also a lot of couples where both are professionals and pulling a hefty income together. One of these couples are our friends and yes, they do hire someone to raise their child. The mom struggles with guilt feelings though, and it has now caused major issues between her and her husband. I would think when you spend that many years in school, it would be difficult to give that up.
