Are They Misunderestimating Bush Again?

So how do the prospects look for Democrats to take control of Congress in next month's election, now that Foleygate has begun to recede into the background?

The New York Sun thinks the pollsters and pundits predicting that the Republicans will lose control of the House and Senate may have, once again, "misunderestimated" President Bush and the Republicans.

Of course, nobody has a crystal ball, but I think the possibility that Democrats will take control of the House, the Senate, or both is just that -- a possibility. But that's all it is.

Pundits have been too quick to declare the election already decided, particularly given the strong economy, which tends to favor incumbents, and the Republican track record on matters of national security, which tends to be seen as more aggressive in pursing terrorists.

Every time world events remind Americans of the jeopardy we face from terrorists and other enemies, Americans are also reminded that one of the major parties has generally supported pursuing the terrorists to the ends of the earth, while the other major party has advocated restraint.
