Women's Rights, Multiculturalism
Sometimes my impression is that feminists comprise the most misogynist American sub-group. Consider this statement by Yale Senior Della Sentilles:
(Read more about the Yale dealido by John Fund here.)
One striking aspect of this controversy is the reaction from Yale's liberal community. Della Sentilles, a Yale senior, recently wrote a piece for the Yale Daily News denouncing such manifestations of rampant misogyny at Yale as the shortage of tenured female professors and poor childcare options. On her blog, a reader asked Sentilles about the presence at Yale of a former spokesman for one of the world's most misogynistic regimes. Her reply: ''As a white American feminist, I do not feel comfortable making statements or judgments about other cultures, especially statements that suggest one culture is more sexist and repressive than another. American feminism is often linked to and manipulated by the state in order to further its own imperialist ends."[emphasis added, ed.]
Would I trust this woman with women's issues? I think not. While I'm all for tenured female professors and agree that childcare is a huge issue for women who would like to stay in the workforce, compared to throwing acid on a woman's face because she dared show it, compared with stoning for possible adultry (while the man is scot free), compared with no ability to be part of the workforce whatsoever, our American femininist issues pale in comparison.
She's not comfortable? She is not comfortable agreeing with U.S. foreign policy in any way, shape or form.
Sheila Kitzinger, a feminist sociologist (is there any other kind) speaks of many indiginous cultures and their mothering which is often more mother-supportive than our modern medical society. I will grant that.
But surely we cannot compare the U.S. "regime" unfavorably with the Taliban's regime when talking about women's rights. Silly talk like this undermines any thinking person's ability to take a feminist serious.
Are there brainwashed women of the Taliban who, praise Allah, get the opportunity to be covered stem to stern for the misfortune of owning breasts and a vagina and LOVE it? I'm sure there are lots of them. They are wrong.
Just like the ding-dong multiple wives of crazy Mormons are wrong. Just like any woman loving any male-dominated women-oppressed CULT is wrong.
It is fascinating to me that the first step in any cult worth its salt is to oppress women and claim God's backing to do it.
That the feminists are so consumed by hatred for the society they are a part of that they cannot rationally look at oppression and name it in its most evil form shows how off their moral compass truly is these days.
P.S. I find it interesting how many soldiers returning from Afganistan and Iraq speak with disgust about how women are treated in these BACKWARD societies. These are Alpha Males, G.I. Joes, tough guy bad-asses who love women and see this culture for what it is: legalized slavery of 50% of the population.
