Ann Althouse on Drug Induced God Love

She says:

Maybe you'd better be refrain from thinking about God and life and death on your own too. You know, it can be frightening even in a very controlled setting.
Yes. Well.

Reading about the research on 'shrooms (groovy baby, hallucinogens clinical style) and how they induce a long-lasting peak experiences:
Many of the 36 volunteers rated their reaction to a single dose of the drug, called psilocybin, as one of the most meaningful or spiritually significant experiences of their lives. Some compared it to the birth of a child or the death of a parent.
....makes me think of the Melange "drug" that induced a similar state in the novel Dune. Remember that? Everyone took the "spice" (kinda like a mushroom) and if you took enough, you could "see" the folds in space. Small doses just gave you a religious experience.

Can you imagine a world where everyone was "high" on God? Simply by taking psilocybin?

As an aside, please make Ann Althouse a daily stop. She is blogging great stuff and blogging up a storm too. If her new Mac has made her that productive, maybe I should get one, too. Or is it that all these great bloggers are on summer vacation and have more time? Either way, she's writing awesome material.
