Patricia and John Farrant: Oldest Parents

In case you thought I was callous, mean, and boringly out-of-touch, I want you to go look at the picture of the new mom, aged 63, with newborn son. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't she look like a grandma? Or better yet, a great grandma?

A child is not some toy that you enjoy in your golden years like a Shih-Tzu lapdog. She will be in her mid-eighties when her son graduates from college, if she is still around for that event. It is highly unlikely that she will see his marriage, his children, or most of his life.

While the couple is clearly happy about their decision, I wonder if they consider how the baby will feel watching an aging, health-challenged parent decline toward the inevitable.
