Three dudes in Philly use the cover of burkas to commit their crimes and the Muslim community is outraged. Really? I mean, I get it. It would be disturbing to see a bunch of Catholic priests committing crimes, rampaging around with their robes and collars. Of course, there is one teensy, weensy difference: The black burka sack completely disguises who you are. A person can be male, female, young, old. In a burka, a person is a non-person. A burqa is the perfect disguise.
These men were practicing Muslims. Check out their bruised noggins. Looks like they pray---a lot. So they are at least going through the religious ritual if nothing else. It is funny that the Muslims would be outraged that a Muslim man would pretend to be a woman. Consider it a remnant of the criminals modern American beliefs that women are equal, that the guys didn't find it too humiliating to flounce around in a burqa. This just makes me laugh:
Many Muslims expressed anger yesterday that criminals would jeopardize Muslim women by wearing their garb.
"It puts sisters in danger," said one Muslim. Islamic researcher Fareed NuMan said, "They couldn't be practicing Muslims, no way. The Quran forbids a man to imitate a woman."
Notice they didn't say that the Quran forbids shooting a police officer in cold blood. Or, it doesn't say that robbing a bank is wrong. The big worry here is over burka-clad sisters being put in danger.
Take the sisters out of the obsolete garb. This isn't a desert where dust storms might make such an article of clothing practical. And in America, where all people are free, it is disgusting to have women be covered like they are members of the untouchable class (I know that's Hindu and India, but you know what I mean). Where the hell are the feminists?
Muslim women dressed as modern, modest women could be devout and not be treated as less than human. And if Muslim would-be robbers wanted to knock off a bank, they'd have to dress in drag to do it which would be more fun, anyway.
Banning burkas seems smart for many reasons.
