Dana Reeve Dead at 44

This is heart-breaking news. Together Chrisopher and Dana have a 13 year old son who survives them. Her lung cancer was not caused by smoking. She didn't smoke.

In Chinese medicine the lung is related to these emotions: Primarily Grief. Other associated emotions include sadness, yearning, cloudy thinking and anguish. Poor Ms. Reeve suffered with all these emotions.

Her loss illustrates a few very important things:

  1. The loss of a beloved spouse is one of the most difficult losses to endure.
  2. The surviviing spouse is at risk of many forms of illness following the death.
  3. Emotional pain does affect the body. Tons of research demonstrates how the immune system suppresses with such excess stress.
If you know someone who is going through severe stress, watch them carefully. Even if they are too inward-thinking to do so, take them for a massage, make sure they get their check-ups, enrole them in a grief support group (my husbands uncle found his wonderful new wife that way--love can bloom again), get them some Neuroemotional Technique to help release the physiology of the emotions to accelerate healing.

So far, we know of no way to bring back the dead, but if we can keep the living we do have, that will be a great victory.

Finally, an orphan survives this death. His name is Will and he needs our prayers.
