Sarcasm: Is It Bad?

Growing up, a Pastor moved from Texas (currently my home state) and preached on the sinfulness of sarcasm. I must profess, I'm divided on the issue. Sarcasm demonstrates wit and intelligence (upside) but often at others expense (downside).

I find that my sarcasm quotient increases at certain times of the month. Could sarcasm be a function of hormones? Are certain comedian's perpetually hormonal?
