BMI Worthless Heart Risk Predictor

In fact look at this news:

The low-weight patients in the studies -- those with the lowest BMIs -- had the highest rates of death from heart disease and all other causes. Patients considered to be overweight, but not obese, had lower risk for death from any cause than patients whose BMIs fell in the normal range.
And guess what? There are tons of moderately overweight people, labeled obese, who are on statins and cholesterol lowering drugs, neither of which have ANY evidence that they decrease heart attack risk. There is lots of evidence, however, that they increase dementia, destroy sex drive and deprive people of their vitality. It's so much fun to be a walking noodle.

The problem with the skinny minnies, just like the morbidly (not moderately obese) is the same: inadequate nutrition. The skinny minnies have bought the garbage that "fat is bad" and have eliminated fat from their diets instead munching on a diet high in carbohydrates. The fat people eat the wrong fats with their carbohydrates. Everyone is malnourished.

Fat is necessary to survive people. An extra few pounds will serve someone better than being underweight. This is especially true for the elderly.

What to do? Get happy. Eat good fat--olive oil, butter (yes, butter) in moderation. Cut out the carbs--soda, chips, wheat products, empty calories and junk. Eat moderate amounts of veggies. Eat moderate amounts of fruits (stay away from juices--ever try to eat more than one apple? can't because your mouth gets worn out--juice on the other hand....). Eat moderate amounts of meat. Drink a cup of coffee for breakfast. Drink a glass of red wine with dinner. Exercise moderately by walking, biking, yoga, dance, pilates or swimming. Get in the sun. Drink lots of water. Use salt moderately.

If you have heart risks take these: B-complex, Magnesium, Calcium and Essential Fatty Acids--Omega 3s. Go to a doctor specializing in nutrition. Could be a Chiropractor, a nutritionist, most likely, not your Medical Doctor (no training).

Boom. Healthy. I'm telling you. If all the heart patients did these things, doctors would be out of business.

Oh and don't smoke at all and drink to excess, but you already know that, right?

I thought wheat products are good for you. I buy wheat breads and other wheat foods all the time. Can you be more specific?

Wheat gluten is difficult to digest as we age. Some people are sensitive to it from birth. Celiac disease is an extreme form of a disorder associated with gluten absorbtion problems. Symptoms include: abdominal swelling and water retention, all manner of digestive disturbances and it can also be a hidden cause of weight gain.

The digestive problems inhibit the absorption of other nutrients.

Gluten is also implicated in causing behavior and concentration problems in children with ADD and Autism Spectrum Disorders. We try to keep our Autistic son off wheat and dairy as much as possible. It makes a huge difference.

Use sourdough and rye breads in lieu of wheat more often. If you don't have a wheat sensitivity, just cut back. You'll feel better!

Is it possible to find a rye bread with NO WHEAT in it or is that absolutely necessary? If i remember correctly, the nutrition lable on many 'rye' breads lists whole wheat flour as the first ingredient.

No it is not possible to find wheat-free rye. Not to mention rye actually has gluten, too. I meant to type RICE bread. See how the brain works?

Anyway, if you go to a gluten-free diet website such as this one, you'll see how much gluten is in everything. Truly, our systems are overwhelmed by what constitutes a "filler" like glue.

Make that, please don't drink to excess. Drinking wine, beer, etc. have health benefits--not the least of which is that warm buzzy feeling. Beyond that, drinking too much causes all sorts of problems with sugar handling, liver, digestion, kidneys and eventually neurologically. Not to mention the whole crash your car thing and killing yourself or someone else.

The drink a lot philosophy would get me more readership though. Hmmmmm.... Okay drink yourself into oblivion. At least you'll die numb.

What do you think about hormonal birth control?

Melissa Clouthier said...

For a host of health reasons, I'm not for birth control pills. In fact, in my pharmacology class the Pill was drug used to illustrate how medications work. Eight women I know quite the pill that day.

First, it increases blood pressure. If you or your family has any BP history at all, don't use it. Estrogen is a growth accelerator--all cells, cancer or otherwise grow. A woman with migraines should NEVER be on the Pill and yet we see it all the time. I guess dead patients don't sue doctors.

If someone must be on the pill, it should be short duration. Birth control is a tough situation. Truly, no good options exist. But I have been married for fifteen years and was only on the pill for two. So I know others can do it too!

Checked the store today for sourdough and rice bread. There is tons of wheat and whole wheat bread out there. Everyone thinks that is the way to go...I certainly did too. I found sourdough but not rice bread.

Sour Dough is a more gluten free product?? I found Essene bread and ezekial bread at the health food store. I believe if i understand correctly that both are gluten free. Taste? fair...you can get used to it especially if it means no bloating. c

Melissa Clouthier said...

I didn't mention Ezekial bread or Sprouted grain bread because they can be hard to find. Actually the sprouted grain is pretty good. Both breads make a meal themselves.

As for Sourdough bread, it isn't gluten free. True sourdough has enzymes that digest the sugars and reduce the carb content, making them healthier breads to eat. They are also easier to digest. They are lower on the glycemic index and don't cause blood sugar over-reaction.

Whew, I must say that I didn't see this whole topic going this direction, but here we are!

Yup, it's because we all buy bread all the time and want the best for our families. So much crappy info out there...you don't know what to beleive anymore. Where can you buy Ezekiel bread and Sprouted bread?

Kroger and HEB carry them, but they are in the frozen foods section because they have no preservatives.
