Going Solar
So long, petro fuel. Hello, sun! Glenn Reynolds is talking about Googles solar power choice.
I've been bugging the Good Doc about slapping some solar panels on our Houston, sun-blasted home since we moved here. At first he thought I was joking, but as I've babbled on, he's realized I'm serious.
Why go solar? I would like energy even after a hurricane (assuming the panels aren't ripped off, right?). I would like to reduce our grid energy use. I would like energy to even out the surges. We have very surgy (word?) power here and I'm constantly worrie d that my computers, appliances, etc. are going to end up fried.
I checked into solar energy seriously last year. It was surprising to learn that there really aren't that many solar dealers here in the Houston area. (If you do a search, you find a lot of industrial, space solar companies who work with satellites and space shuttles. All very interesting.) That just seems crazy to me. It's hot as bloody hades here. Also, the installation, the panels, everything are a pain to deal wtih. Much has changed in the last few years.
So, I'm waiting for easy and cheap. I'm waiting for stuff like this. Bring it on!
