McCain's Military Experience Not As Good As Obama's Self-Assessment

McCain's time as POW meant a big zip when compared to Obama's vast record of stellar character and communication. Hey, I'm not an enthusiastic fan of McCain, but that's a tough sell even for me. I think the Obamatons might want to choose a different subject on which to attack McCain.

Michelle Malkin says:

And Barack Obama’s “executive responsibility” would be…what exactly? Oh, yeah. Conducting leadership training seminars for ACORN shakedown artists!
The Anchoress notes this (read the whole thing):
The current president has shown he can take many punches. Can Obama handle one?

Oh, here’s an idea - let’s suggest that John McCain’s war record is irrelevant. That won’t make you look too hypocritical, will it, after you spent 2004 suggesting John Kerry’s turn in Vietnam defined his worthiness to sit in the Oval Office? Nah, of course not.
Ann Althouse cites examples of Obama's leadership and wonders why Hillary didn't more effectively use this information. My short answer is that the campaigns were so non-stop and had a helter-skelter quality. And did Hillary fear that going after Obama's "experience" would expose her own stellar public service--health care pops to mind.

Don Surber notes Obama's leadership when it comes to women:
Democratic Sen. Barack Obama pays women staffers 87¢ for every $1 he pays his men.

I laughed when Obama said: “Women still earn only 77¢ for every dollar earned by men.”

Where, I wondered, would that be?

Little did I know he was talking about his own Senate office.
What about McCain's leadership? Well, the women on his staff make $1.04 for every $1.00 a man makes.

Tom McGuire ponders Obama's lack of "cowering." Obama the he-man. He will. Not. Break.

If you listen to Barack Obama and his surrogates, he's the man of steel while McCain is a lily-livered guy with no record of public or military service. It's quite a trick to try to turn this around.

So She Had A Bad Day

Can we all commiserate with Hillary Clinton just for a moment and consider how utterly galling it must have been to stand by her man, once again?

She's used to dancing and gazing. She's taken it to an art form, really, but still, yesterday had to suck for her.

Hard.

Democrats: A Blood Sugar Crisis At The Convention

No, no! You musn't touch the greasy food!

Eight years ago, or so, I went to a week-long retreat/seminar where all the food was "healthy". No sugar. No meat. Everything was vegetarian. Well. Let me tell you, by day three, people were getting hostile. There were some internationals there, and unused to the US they didn't have vehicles, so were stuck, helplessly enslaved to health.

Meanwhile, I had brought a stash. Plus, we had a car so we could replenish our naughty supplies which included everything from salted peanuts to Cokes to Twix bars and other forms of chocolaty goodness. Can you say cool kids? Yeah, for once in my nerdified life, I was a cool kid and I promise you, it is much more fun than being an orchestra geek.

So, I'm laughing about the suckahs who are going to the Democratic convention. It's going to be healthy, ya'll, and those Lefties will be even more angry than usual. Delicious!

Among them: No fried food. And, on the theory that nutritious food is more vibrant, each meal should include "at least three of the following colors: red, green, yellow, blue/purple, and white." (Garnishes don't count.) At least 70% of ingredients should be organic or grown locally, to minimize emissions from fuel burned during transportation. "One would think," says Mr. Burns, "that the Democrats in Denver have bigger fish to bake -- they have ruled out frying already -- than mandating color-coordinated pretzel platters."

Democrats say the point is to build habits that will endure long after the convention. To that end, the city has staged "greening workshops" attended by hundreds of caterers, restaurant owners and hotel managers. "It's the new patriotism," Mayor Hickenlooper says.
I'm giggling. I'm a chiropractor and I'm all for healthy food. But a bigger principle to me is that people can eat what they dang well please and attempts by self-righteous do-gooders to impose their utopian food fantasies is just plain annoying. Which is what I explained to my co-conspirators at the well-intentioned seminar of yore. Sure, I believe that eating healthy is great, but imposed rules grate on me like carrots on a shredder. It makes me want to eat a steak, guzzle a beer, have a potato chip and chase it with some chocolate cake while singing the Star Spangled Banner at a million decibles.

The Dem Convention is just amusing though. This is self-flaggelation of the highest order. Already Hillary's people will be hating Barack's gloating hoards. Take away their sugar and caffiene and make them eat three colors and it will be colorful alright! There will be fireworks. I can't wait!

Believing Barack--UPDATED

We can expect more tap dancing on a grand scale from a future President Obama based on his response to the women banned from his photo op the other day. Gateway Pundit via Debbie Schlussel finds that the women are not sweet little Muslim girls who were discriminated against by Obama but rather radical anti-Israel activists and friends. That's interesting enough, but it's Obama's response to these two yahoos that's more interesting. When CAIR suggested he personally call them and apologize, he did.

Obama stepped in it over the unpartitioned Jerusalem and backtracked. Obama just generally seems befuddled a lot. Like most politicians, he'll say anything to anyone for one reason: to get elected. Perhaps the most disturbing thing about this though, is that no one will believe him. People need to believe the word of the Commander-in-Chief.

George W. Bush is hated because of his policies and because of his beliefs. He also has the temerity to follow through with his word. So, conservatives are angry about illegal immigration and No Child Left Behind, but can anyone act surprised? Bush did what he said he was going to do.

Barack Obama says anything to anyone. As President, he's preside like he's campaigning: appeasing everyone. It worked for Bill Clinton, but this is not Bill Clinton's world. America, for all the Left's denial, is at war and will still be in November should the Savior take the helm. Tough decisions requiring coherent ideas will make enemies. Maybe, at that point, Obama won't care. I suspect he won't. He will have won the prize and that's the goal. America's standing is secondary to the symbolic magnificence of Obama in the White House.

He appeases now. He will appease later. It's a disturbing thought.

UPDATE:

Right Wing Sparkle notes how the Brits see Obama:

My guess is that British voters would really prefer a dual presidency, with Obama handling domestic policy and McCain in charge of foreign policy. Obama could make America more like Britain with universal, government-managed health care; higher taxes on the "rich" and on capital gains; expanded social services; trade unions made more powerful; continued preferences for blacks seeking university places and government jobs; gay marriage or some variant thereof; abortion on demand.

He goes on to describe what McCain would do in foreign policy, but has anyone in America ever described so well Obama's domestic policy????

Simple, brief, and completely scary.
I think it's safe to believe this is what Obama wants domestically. And it is completely scary.

Michelle Obama's Baby's Daddy

There's a big stink because Fox News ran a segment about Michelle Obama and the caption included the words "Barack Obama's Baby Mama". One could argue that the phrase further dumbs down the American language and is a racial epithet unsuitable for prime time. Or, one could argue that the hip hop culture has come to define at least part of the culture at large and embrace the language. Or, one could do either depending on the circumstances.

Michelle Obama used the term "baby daddy" to introduce her husband, so clearly she does not find the language offensive. I'm guessing that increases her cred on the street, yo. Or, maybe it's just a fun, light hearted thing to say. Wait, I think it might be the latter.

However, is it wrong for others to describe Ms. Obama as Barack's "baby Mama"? Is baby Mama like the "N" word, only appropriate in the black man's mouth? (Which I disagree with, by the way--to me the "N" word is offensive no matter who uses it, but anyone who wants to use it can.) Firedog Lake is characteristically hysterical,"2008: She's well-educated, a lawyer, and a black woman -- unleash the hounds!" Is saying "baby Mama" unleashing the hounds?

Now, I'll grant you, that no one is probably going to describe McCain's wife Cindy as a "baby Mama", but I doubt you'll hear Cindy McCain introduce her husband as her "baby's Daddy". She knows how silly it would sound coming from the potential future president's wife's mouth. Oh wait......

Obama's Candidacy Is A Win For Liberals Even If He Loses

According to liberals, the only reason a man so great as Obama could possibly lose is because he's black and Americans are racist. What a convenient belief. If Obama loses, Americans will hear for the next twenty years about their racism and badness. His loss would be further proof of America's evil. If Obama wins, America will hear about the perfection and lightness of Obama's being. His greatness will make America great.

I found this over at Ebonypolitics:

In America, Barack Obama can be a lot of things: a law professor, a state senator, a United States Senator and a presidential candidate, but one thing he can not be is white, and that is what might stop him from becoming president.
So, if he loses, it's America's fault. If he wins, it's because he's a Savior. It's a win-win for Liberals who cling to identity politics like a baby blanket. An Obama loss would be fuel for their discontent for years.

I'd like to put forth the notion to our liberal brethren that Barack Obama might lose not because of the color of his skin, but the content of his character, content of his socialist philosophy, and the lack of content of his resumé. Maybe liberals could also consider that Americans will choose the next president based on who they think is best for America.

Hell Hath No Fury....

.....like a woman scorned.

So what will the scorned Hillary Clinton do at the convention? Will she stand by submissively like she did for her husband? She has been well-schooled that way. Her supporters might not be too happy about seeing her docile this time around. Even a Vice Presidency is unlikely to appease them.

My guess is that she'll maintain her dignity, but her followers won't be so dignified.

It's amazing to me, really. This is how emotional the Democrats are all around: Hillary is the stronger candidate. Obama keeps revealing himself to be tone-deaf and rather dull-witted not to mention perniciously narcissistic and unqualified, but there is no way in hell that he's not going to be the candidate even though he polls weaker against McCain.

In this election year, almost any Democrat would have been stronger than almost any Republican and yet, the Democrats put up the one candidate who can be beat. I'm glad they aren't rational. It might spare the country some serious harm.

Intestinal cramping interferes with intellectual reasoning

I am so irritated with Firefox, I could spit. I don't feel well, I was putting together a decent post for you guys and it was just flushed down the internet black hole. In some parallel universe there is a post that was destined for greatness (well at least mediocrity) and it's gone.

Want to laugh? Go look at Rachel Lucas' dog. Dog humiliation has never made me laugh so hard.

Gas prices are up, buy a scooter. I have a scooter story, but it's humiliating and I already feel sick.

Hillary might be a redneck drinker after all. No wonder she's so popular in the holler.

I never thought Al Franken was funny, but imagining Minnesota Democrats ponder Franken's senatorial candidacy is funny.

More white hate at Obama's church. Racism, the gift that just keeps on giving. And Obama is going to usher in a post-racial world. Right.

Links of good stuff here. I'm going to bed.

I Have One Nerve Left And Michelle Obama Is Sitting On It

I have one nerve left thanks to a toddler and his feuding siblings (actually, they get along pretty well), annnnnyway, Michelle Obama gets all over that one nerve. I've posted about her before (here, here, and here). Like I said, I find her the only compelling figure in this election. Hillary will say anything for power. Barack is as bland as butter-free toast; project all your hope and change onto the bland man. His blandness is what's so exciting about him. McCain knows what's right for everyone, if only we'll listen to his hoary-headed wisdom.

And then there's Michelle. Since Barack won't say what he really thinks, or not too often, Michelle steps in with her wit, wisdom and whine. Tom McGuire has more about her here. He says:

Ms. Obama has nailed down the "Whiny, Self-Absorbed Pessimist" demographic. Let's see if that becomes a key part of the Obama coalition.
Actually, I think "whiny, self-absorbed pessimist" is the Obama coalition.

You Can't Be Serious

You are not seriously sitting out the election or voting for a Democrat are you? John Hawkins, as you've read here is done. Ace is flipping his lid too:

Or perhaps it's simpler: John McCain is unfailingly honorable; if he acts in a way that seems to be dishonorable, you must be perceiving it incorrectly, because John McCain is unfailingly honorable.

In fact, I imagine he conceives that there's a great deal of integrity in his "having the guts" to tell the conservative troglodytes what they needed to hear in order to secure the nomination.

I held off on this last night because I didn't know what to do. I guess my heart is with Hawkins, though my brain says Morrissey's right... Obama would be (marginally, I think) worse than McCain.

But Obama hasn't really flat-out lied to me.

That counts for something.
I admit it. John McCain is a liar. But I never believed him when he said that he'd support security first, anyway, so I'm not feeling betrayed. This whole election has been about plugging my nose, and mustering the gumption to pull the damn lever. And for me, it's still about that, because I think about an Obama presidency with a Democrat congress and my skin starts erupting red blotches.

Ed Morrissey doesn't think McCain lied, exactly, and disagrees with John and Ace. He says:
Does anyone believe that Barack Obama would be more committed to border security than John McCain? Not if they’ve paid attention. Obama is at best the same as McCain on immigration, and more likely to acquiesce to Democrats like Dick Durbin on another full-blown amnesty. Even if we consider that a wash, where else does Obama look better than McCain to conservatives?
I guess I just can't believe that Republicans will want to be a party to that kind of destruction in America. Obama will usher in a time of Carter-like prosperity and as a business owner that makes me want to curl up into the fetal position and suck my thumb.

Do you guys really think a Democrat would be better?

I will be voting for

We're Entering The Wilderness

Yesterday, I read John Hawkin's interview with the anonymous campaign staffer. The more I read, the madder I got. At the end, through IM poor John got sprayed with my vented spleen. If that sounds horrible, it was. He said,"Wow, you're in a bad mood." Actually, no I'm not. I'm in a great mood. I'm just fed up with the outrageous condescension emanating out of DC and Republicans in particular. I hadn't read your comments and he suggested that I do. I love you guys! You're my peeps! You said what I felt but in a far more reasoned, thoughtful way.

Later, John got me back. The New York Times dropped the piece about McCain's 90 degree turn (I can't say 180, because he only changed to the security first mantra) on amnesty. My ears are still burning from that. My reaction? Bemused. It's touching that someone actually believed John McCain. As I've said before, John McCain serves at the leisure of John McCain. We're all just along for the "I know better than you" ride.

I think it's time we face the facts, if we haven't already: The next four years are going to f*cking suck. Last week, Kim DuToit said it best:

McCain is going to screw us, every single chance he gets, as long as what he does makes him popular with the Press, or with “centrist” Democrats like Joe Lieberman, or with “moderate” Republicans like Olympia Snowe, or with “popular” figures like Ted Kennedy and Arianna Huffington, or with international bodies like the United Nations.

And occasionally, he’s going to screw us just because he hates conservatives, and because he can, and because he knows that as bad as he is, Obama would be orders of magnitude worse.
Linking to the post, I said:
P.S. Have you noticed that I have a Hillary tag and an Obama tag, but I just can't bring myself to make a McCain tag? I just. can't. do. it. Arghhhhhh! The next four years are going to be hell. Tar and feathers will be a relief.

The Republicans think that conservatives, average voters don't get it. And that's the problem. When the representatives believe they are smarter than the people they represent, they no longer represent. And that is the problem all through the House and Senate. The leaders have contempt for the opinions of those who got them there. It is no longer a representative democracy but an elected ruling class. And the ruling class thinks conservatives and libertarians who voted them into office are stupid rubes.

Illegal immigration: Security first, enrages our southern neighbor, Mexico (the world might hate us). There are millions new voters (only if amnesty passes) and the Republicans lose them all, if we're too strict on border fences (Translation: I'll lose my power). We need a cheap work force (workers as a commodity).

Earmarks, pork: You don't have to look into the eyes of big donors and tell them they aren't getting a government contract. The Democrats do it and then locals won't support Republicans. Democrats do it. We're better than them. (Translation: I'll lose my power.)

Iraq, terrorism: Americans don't like it (Translation: If I'm too supportive of the effort, I'll lose my power). No, Americans f*cking hate losing. With a purple passion, Americans hate sh*ting money away on a big pile of nothing. Do what it frigging takes, people. If that means obliterating Sadr City from the face of the planet to get the squabbling morons to pay attention, then do it and be done with it. War is bloody business. If it's a war worth fighting, then f*cking fight it. Things look like they're going better. Good. When we succeed pound away about it in the media and stop being pussies with the press.

The Press: If I'm nice, they'll be kind (Translation: I want to be re-elected and the press can help me.) The press hates you. They are progressive Leftists. Why do you give flying flap jack what they think? It is over, if it ever was, which it wasn't. You won't receive fairness from them. You won't receive balance. They will slant things, take you out of context, malign you, degrade you. Accept it. That's life. Move along and do the right thing and don't try to change reality.

Democrats: Americans want us to work with them. (Translation: Democrats are our friends and we see them at parties and we want to be polite.) No they don't. Your voters want you to stand on a principle. Fight. The Democrats will betray and sell you out every chance they get. They will be aided and abetted by the press. Stop trying to be pals with the bullies. Smash their faces (metaphorically).

Global warming: Our planet might die and it's our fault. (Translation: Everyone believes it, it must be true and we want to co-opt the issue from Democrats, because we want to sound smart and oh, by the way, we want to be re-elected.) Shut the f*ck up! You are going to kill the economy. People are also bitching about gas prices, if you haven't noticed and it's because you idiots adopt stupid policies to appease special interests like environmentalists and farmers (does anyone find these two groups an unholy alliance?). Global warming isn't caused by humans and even if it is, you buffoons aren't going to solve it. You're POLITICIANS not frigging scientists. Stop meddling in every damn thing.

Energy: We need to lower gas prices, let's ride the oil companies. (Translation: Blaming is easier than making hard political choices and I really, really want to be re-elected.) It's called drilling and exploration. Free the capitalists to do their work before we end up like Europe and paying $6 a gallon of gas.

I could go on and on. Do you notice a theme? Instead of standing on principle, the Republicans rationalize their devilish deal making by saying, "Well, if we're not in office, it will be far worse because Democrats would do worse things." And yes, I remember Reagan's quotes about conservatives unwilling to accept an 80% solution, but that's not what we're talking about here.

The Republicans don't see that if they cease to support fiscal responsibility, small government, less regulation, an open free-market, fierce self-defense, sovereignty, life, they cease to become Republicans. They are political animals buffeted about by every political wind because they're more concerned about power than principle and they justify their craven natures by saying that no principles can be supported if they aren't in power.

We'll soon find out if they're right, because the Republicans are going to lose big in the Fall. They'll be tempted, again, to blame Bush, but I suggest they look in the mirror. Return to the optimistic message that the common man is powerful and the strength of our country. Give the common man power by making sure he has as many economic choices as possible. Keep him safe from harm so he can work. Cut his taxes so he can grow. Help him educate his children by giving him educational choices.

In short, start loving the people who give you power. Respect them. They understand the political realities more than you know. Compromise is palatable if they're made on the backdrop of principle, but your voters need to believe you hold a principle. And for heaven sakes, articulate a vision. Mr. Hope-Change at least gets that. Find a charismatic, communicative, fearless Republican and have him say these things. You'll get elected, but right now, you guys have it backwards.

There is still time to turn it around. Otherwise, the wilderness will become a permanent home.

Hung From Their Own Rope

If the Right is apathetic, the Left is apoplectic. I've been ruminating on the implications for the country whether Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton get the nomination.

To me, Hillary Clinton is the harder candidate to beat in the general election. She is perceived as more centrist and has done a pretty good job casting herself as the working man's candidate. She is tough, competitive and hangs in there. This tenacity has impressed many people. Aside from her weeping episodes which came off as manipulative, she has been doggedly determined and come across as tough. She craves power and it's both terrifying and respect-inducing to behold.

The calls for Hillary to bow out when she is hanging so tough enrages feminists and the women who support her. It's the same old, same old from the patriarchy: take a back seat to a lesser man. Concede. Submit. Stand down to elevate him. Hillary has, of course, done this. She supported Bill for years, even through his infidelity and immaturity, in order to have the power. But she knows, as does everyone else, that is was his power. Now, it is her turn. This message resonates deeply with women. The feminists waited for this moment. It's the culmination of a lifetime of hopes and dreams and Hillary symbolizes the American Woman. Not getting the nomination is like orgasm-less sex. Women don't want to be left hanging. Again.

I think the Left, the Super-delegates, even average middle-American voters fear that Obama's newness, his lack of experience, his liberalness, his softness won't play in the general election. But everyone is stuck. If women have suffered lo, these many years in America, only blacks can claim more victimhood. Underneath the Obama candidacy is a threat and silent menace: nominate him, or else. Or else what? Will there be riots in the cities should Obama not get the nomination? Will delegates' lives be threatened? That's what some fear. And so, the renewed pleas for Hillary to "do the right thing" and quit.

The nomination of Barack Obama means "healing", "hope" and "change". What it means is that America, can, once and for all, put the taint of slavery behind them. The tide has turned and America, finally, in Michelle Obama's 44th year, is a place where even black citizens can be proud. As much as blacks want this, whites want this more. Many whites tire of the collective guilt and want to be shed of it. A black president would heal the country and change the future.

How will Obama's followers, including the 90% black voters, feel should they be denied? This moment seems historic and profound and necessary. The emotionalism, the attachment is as real as group adoration ever can be. Obama taps into a well of desire and fear that is almost irresistible. Life without him will be desolate, life will him will be infused with purpose and light.

For the Democrats making this decision, it's over. There can be no other candidate than Obama. He may lose in the general, but that will be a small price to pay. This candidacy matters more to elite Democrats than to the political realities of the general election. Hillary Clinton isn't making this decision easy, but, in the end, it won't matter. This is about history. This is about symbolism. This is about shiny ideals and a perfect vision.

Democrats will, without irony, savage John McCain--even his amazing military record. They will paint him as conservative (which conservatives will roll their eyes at). They will disparage his long record. Trying to fight Obama's record will be like shadow boxing. He doesn't have one. His list of accomplishments is anemic, but he's not running on what he's done but what what he represents.

The only result of this Democratic primary will be a new level of cynicism that can only come from identity politics. And while this is all inevitable and predictable, it's distressing at the same time. A fractured society doesn't last long.

Big Ideas On The Left and Right

While the good people of Oregon worshiped adoringly and the press facilitated the faux-outrage over President Bush's scorn for appeasement, the meat of the President's impressive speech was lost. Here's my favorite line:

Ultimately, to prevail in this struggle, we must offer an alternative to the ideology of the extremists by extending our vision of justice and tolerance and freedom and hope. These values are the self-evident right of all people, of all religions, in all the world because they are a gift from the Almighty God.
This speech was a big speech on a big platform sharing big ideas. These are ideas to fight for and defend. There are still worthy ideals.

The ideas in this speech make discussions about fat people and SUVs and global warming seem small and insignificant in comparison. But those are the big, triumphant ideas of the Left these days. The leader of the Left in America presses for ways to constrain human freedom (link to video of Obama's latest speech) to create an ideal society. Higher taxes to put money where they believe it should go. New laws so people will drive the "right" kind of cars. Policies will encourage parents to make sure their children are fit. Those are the "big ideas". Actually, the big idea is that Barack Obama knows what's good for you.

The big idea on the Right should be that you know what's good for you. I said should be. This election, the decision will be between which mommy seems less naggy. Big ideas will be for another election somewhere down the road.

Obama Is One Of The 25 Fittest American Men

If you don't believe there is a media bias, then you must live without electricity and printed paper. Even Men's Fitness joins the media Obasm. I'm laughing as I write this. The press swoons like Elvis fans from the 50s. What a bunch of little girls. Is it Hannah Montana? No, it's Barack Obama! Touch me! Touch me!

Obama: I'm Gonna Barf

I. Don't. Want. To. Post. About. This. Silly. Man. Again.

Argh!

This is going to be the shittiest election year ever. A real Republican verses a real Democrat is bad enough. A Moderate Democrat pretending at Republicanism verses a Socialist is excruciating. Lot's of people are saying lots of things. All of them valid, and if you want to be an informed voter...... I just completely lost interest in finishing that sentence. What more information do we need?

Obama will be an appeaser. He is a reckless one at that. And he's displeased at the implication.

Obama is narcissistic.

Obama's associates are less than savory.

Obama lies.

Obama is for the same old answers and just says Hope! Change! a lot.

Obama "talk(s) big and carries a soft stick."

Obama will make interesting appointments after receiving interesting endorsements.

Obama believes Hamas and Hezbollah have "legitimate grievances".

And still, rational people love Obama. I don't get it. Really, I don't.

Right Leaning Politics Around The Web

What is wrong with Republicans? Peggy Noonan blames Bush. Dan Collins blames morons. You'll have to see who they are at the link.

For those looking for something to be thankful for: Huckabee shot his chances to be Veep. Can I get a hallelujah? Hallelujah!

Darlene Click has the temerity to question the Supreme Court of California's eminence. Don't question the deciders, Darlene. They say gay marriage is good. Barack Obama says it's bad. Uh oh. I'm on tilt. Do two rights make a wrong?

McCain is the reason the Republicans suck. Or is it that the Republicans suck which is why they chose McCain? The Queer Conservative says:

I'm coming back to a thought I tossed around when McCain became the "presumptive" nominee. I think we need to lose this election; Congress, the White House, governorships, state houses, the whole shebang. Nothing motivates or gives you perspective like a good ass-kicking.
Uh huh. I think we'll find that out for sure here soon, how motivating ass-kickings are.

Barack Obama Is Gay: A Reverend Said It So It Must Be True

And he says that Oprah is the next Secretary of State--something to look forward to. What do these allegations seem far-fetched or something?

I have decent Gaydar and Barack Obama hasn't triggered any sirens. As discussed before, though, Mr. Obama isn't the manliest of men and doesn't inspire a tremendous amount of kick-ass confidence. Now, his wife Michelle? She scares me. There's no question who would win in a cage-match with that woman. Good money is on her.

What Barack Obama has that inspires so many, besides the awe-inspiring rhetoric, is the androgynous sexiness of a rock star like Prince. People can project their sexuality, their beliefs, their hopes, their everything on this man. He's neither black nor white, male nor female, aggressive nor passive, gay nor straight. He is everything and nothing at the same time.

Will allegations of gayness stick? No. First, it's not true and ridiculous on its face. Second, nothing sticks because nothing can stick to Obama because there has to be something for anything to stick. Can the all-beingness last all the way through the election? Maybe. I keep thinking that he'll have to come up with something, anything, to convince voters he's worthy of a vote, but maybe not. McCain is annoying enough that just existing as an alternative might be enough to succeed.

Republicans Don't Get It Because They Don't Want To Get It

The Republicans and the rest of the country will pay come this Fall. If it's a close race, a Democrat will win. Every. Time. Why? Because the Republicans still don't get it.

Forget the social issues--abortion, gay marriage, embryonic stem cell research--they don't matter. Oh, they matter. Blah. Blah. People have strong opinions on them. People might change their votes between two similar candidates based on a social issue. But there is only one issue for which Republicans used to be defined: fiscal responsibility.

Low taxes. Low spending.

Those two things defined being a Republican. It was, it is, something all working people (besides the super, mega wealthy liberal elite) can agree on. It ties everyone together and makes for a solid, reliable voting block. But nooooo, the Republicans, when they take control of Congress and the White House spend like a million bloated Ted Kennedys. It makes me so angry I could spit and vote Obama for spite. I am not alone.

Over the past six years the Republican leadership, including the smug John McCain, ducked from fights and chose solutions like reaching across the aisle for "compromise". Compromise meant spending like a Democrat just not spending quite as much. Americans don't want two versions of Democrats when it comes to THEIR money. They want a choice. Well, for the past six years, Republicans and fiscally conservative Democrats have watched in helpless outrage as the Republicans treated the electorate the exact same way the Democrats treated them--with contempt.

These Congress people get wealthy while in office and blithely bankrupt the country. They have no problem spending your hard earned dough, a couple times over. And the Republicans did nothing to stop the madness. They encouraged it along. Did they think they will not pay a price for their gluttony at the public trough? They will pay one.

And come Fall, the country will pay because the irony is this: Americans figure, if they're going to get Democrat policy might as well elect Democrats and see if they can do it better. There will be even more spending and more taxes. Thanks Republicans!

Meanwhile, John McCain is talking about Global Warming in Oregon (where he has a snowball's chance in Hell). Are frigging kidding me?

McCain Pain...Already

Save room in the barrel for me Kim:

McCain is going to screw us, every single chance he gets, as long as what he does makes him popular with the Press, or with “centrist” Democrats like Joe Lieberman, or with “moderate” Republicans like Olympia Snowe, or with “popular” figures like Ted Kennedy and Arianna Huffington, or with international bodies like the United Nations.

And occasionally, he’s going to screw us just because he hates conservatives, and because he can, and because he knows that as bad as he is, Obama would be orders of magnitude worse.

Leave space for me in the tar barrel. It’s going to look like a Japanese bath house by the time the election’s over.

As an aside, I love Kim du Toit. Embarrassingly, I just added him to my blog roll. To make up for my ages of stupiditude, you need to visit his blog every day this week. In fact, go visit every day, a couple times a day, for the rest of your days because Kim will make you smarter. To make it up, I don't ever leave his blog, I just hit refresh over and over.

P.S. Have you noticed that I have a Hillary tag and an Obama tag, but I just can't bring myself to make a McCain tag? I just. can't. do. it. Arghhhhhh! The next four years are going to be hell. Tar and feathers will be a relief.

Obama's Rules For The Campaign

Betsy synthesizes:

If you can write the rules in politics in your favor, then you're halfway to victory, especially if you get the media to parrot and champion the rules you've written. Rich Lowry pokes fun at the rules that Obama has written for the campaign. Basically, the golden rule of Obamaland is anything that makes Obama looks bad is a distraction from the real concern of the American people which is how to make Obama look good.
Her post reveals why Obama will be our next President, if the press has their way. We already know which way Obama wants it.
